Get Involved at Davis Elementary
VOLUNTEERS - WE NEED YOU!
Davis Elementary school recognizes that volunteers play a vital role in the success of our school. With this in mind, we have developed a volunteer program to assist teachers, students and staff in many different ways.
Our volunteer family is made up of parents, students, grandparents, community senior citizens, school business partners, and community organizations. Volunteers may commit as little or as much time as their schedule will allow -- from thirty minutes a day or week to one or more days per week-- any amount of time makes a big difference and is greatly appreciated. There are many ways that you can become involved at R.L Davis Elementary School. We encourage you to contact your child’s teacher, the DES Elementary PTO or the front office at 455-5672 to learn more about volunteering at our school. Our Volunteer Coordinator, Debbie Speer, will also be sending home a volunteer survey/sign-up form after school starts. We have opportunities both during the day and after hours as well as tasks that you may be able to do from home. No deed is too small!
Here’s just a sample of the possible opportunities for volunteering (but keep in mind there are many, many more than just the following):
Classroom Volunteers and Tutors: Opportunities to assist teachers with preparation of materials, reading with a small group of children and practicing math facts.
Library Volunteers: With the volume of books being returned daily to the library, Mrs. Copley can always use assistance in shelving books. She also utilizes volunteers during Davis Book Fairs.
Room Parents: Each year you will have the opportunity to sign up as a room parent. The room parent helps plan and organize class parties as well as serving as a communication contact for the Davis Elementary Parent Teacher Organization.
Davis Elementary PTO: The Davis Elementary PTO provides funding for resources in the classroom, field trips and other opportunities our students may not otherwise get to experience. Additionally, PTO hosts family events, provides activities/events for students, Teacher Appreciation Week and much, much more! We encourage you to attend the DES PTO meetings to learn of volunteer opportunities that fit your schedule.
Watch D.O.G.S.: Fathers, Grandfathers, or Father Figures help the campus in numerous ways. Our Watch D.O.G.S. help in the classroom, during lunch and on the playground. They also serve as mentors to our students and help with arrival and dismissal by opening car doors and greeting students.
Mentors: Our Davis Mentors work with students on a regular basis to provide support, encouragement and motivation academically, socially, and behaviorally.
Picture Day Volunteers: Volunteers assist teachers in walking classes to the picture room, organizing students , and collecting picture order forms.
We realize that many of our volunteers are not able to give time during the school day. But, there are still numerous ways to help the school and volunteer your time: saving Box Tops, saving My Coke Reward Caps, stuffing fundraiser packets, and much more.
We need you...we want you...and we recognize the value of the work of a volunteer!
